What is MAIN AISA HI HOON'S story line ?

My film is about a drug addict, Esha Deol - based in London, whose father is a multi-millionaire. While he gives his daughter, everything that money can buy, he has no time for her. Esha returns to India, seeking peace and happiness. She finds solace in Ajay Devgan, who is a mentally challenged, honest and pure soul. Soon she falls in love with him.

What is the message that you are trying to convey through this film?

This film delves into the roller-coaster of human emotions. It conveys the need for parents today, to give their children Time and Love, not just money. It also portrays the challenges of a mentally disabled person. Particularly when he is struggling to get custody of his child, inspite of his illness.

How different is your film from the Hollywood Hit - I AM SAM?

While I don't deny the fact that Main Aisa Hi Hoon was inspired by this film; you fill find that that the two movies are distinctly different from each other. For example, Esha Deol's character doesn't exist in I Am Sam. I don't deny the fact, of being inspired by this film, but both of them are totally different from each other.

You have once again cast your favourite actor, Ajay Devgan in the lead!

We only have a handful of actors and Ajay is one among them. It is a dream role for any actor. Ajay immediately agreed to play the role of a mentally challenged person. He put on weight, worked on his body language and worked real hard to bring authenticity to his Character.

Did you have to prepare before going on the sets?

Most definitely so. I visited several schools for the mentally challenged. I spent hours on end, observing their mannerisms alongwith Ajay - who plays a character whose mental IQ is that of a seven year old.

What about the performances of Sushmita Sen and Esha Deol?

All three leading actors in the film, essay their roles brilliantly. Each of them 'look the part' they are playing. Sushmita plays a ruthless woman who would do anything for her career. On the other hand, Esha plays a 20 year old brat. She will shock the audience with her performance.

Harry Baweja is known to make action oriented films - Any comments?!

I started my career with experimental theatre. When I came to Mumbai, I found everyone interested in watching the out-and-out commercial cinema of Manmohan Desai or Prakash Mehra. I too was inspired by them and decided to make films of the 'commercial' genre. But now that my Company is set, I have the confidence and the ability to risk making films which are meaningful and off the beaten track.

You were planning to release this film in December/January.

True. I was planning for a December release, but was unable to complete the post-production work on time. Meanwhile the release of Black got postponed by two weeks . We didn't want to clash with it, as it too belongs to the same genre. We also had to take into account that March is a month, dotted with examinations. Taking all the elements into consideration; we are now set for an April release for Main Aisa Hi Hoon.

Tell us about your son, Harman's debut film.

It is a science fiction film titled Love Story - 2050. It is a contemporary story which will give audiences a glimpse of what Mumai will look like in the future. We intend to release the film in the summer of 2006.

What made you cast Kareena Kapoor in this film?

As a youth icon, Kareena seemed the best choice. Also I didn't want to waste time training a new actress.

Is it a fact that you paid Kareena an astronomical price?

I paid her exactly what her market price is !

What is the budget of your film?

It is difficult to arrive at a figure at present, since the movie is yet to go on the floors. However I am confident that the film will be a success and that everyone will recover the price.

Is your lucky mascot - Ajay Devgan a part of LOVE ST
