Tanu Virwani on OTT vs Theatres:

In recent years, the entertainment industry has witnessed a dynamic shift with the rise of OTT platforms, challenging the traditional dominance of theatres. Actor Tanuj Virwani, known for his impressive work across both mediums, weighed in on the ongoing OTT vs theatres debate during an exclusive chat with us. Sharing his candid perspective, he highlighted how this evolving landscape is pushing creators to deliver better content and how, for him, the essence of storytelling remains constant—regardless of the platform.

He explained, "Uh, you know, I think it's healthy competition. I think it keeps people both from OTT as well as films on their toes. You do not want to take things for granted in this business, in this industry. And OTT has come as a not-so-gentle reminder, ‘hey, we're right on your heels, and if you don't pull up your socks and provide better content and quality entertainment to the audiences, we will steal your business."

He continued, "So it's good, it's healthy competition. It's important to know that someone's right on your back and could take a big piece of pie at any point. Um, so yeah, I just feel, uh, you know, it's horses for courses. I am equally comfortable in OTT or in films because, for me, the technicians are largely the same, the cameras and the equipment we use are largely the same."

Explaining the only difference if found in the two different words of storytelling, he added, "What differs is the storytelling, because OTT is obviously built for a lot more long format storytelling. But it's not like I have to change my process — maybe tweak it a little bit. But as long as I am staying authentic to the character and to the world that my character is inhabiting, for me, that's what matters. It doesn't matter whether it's a theater or OTT release, because theatrical releases eventually find their audiences on OTT, so it's OTT Right."
