Sunny Deol on Damini, Ghatak :

Sunny Deol made an extended cameo in Rajkumar Santoshi's Damini (1993), starring Rishi Kapoor and Meenakshi Seshadri. His character, Govind, a lawyer, became a cult figure and left a legacy of many memorable dialogues behind. Today, at the trailer launch of his upcoming film, Jaat, he was asked about making these films and the social media battle between Bollywood and South Indian films.

Sharing his reaction to that, Sunny Deol said, "It's about society. South films have done that, and that's why those films have risen to new heights when merged with Hindi cinema. I think we should start that in Bollywood, too. We should bring back our rooted cinema; that's the kind of films you mentioned (Damini, Ghatak, and such) that have become films for audiences. We should start making films like them again."

Damini was a box office hit and emerged as one of the top ten Bollywood grossers of the year. The movie gained a cult following for Sunny Deol's portrayal of an alcoholic lawyer, a role that earned him a Filmfare Award as well as a National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1993. The dialogues "Tarikh Pe Tarikh" and "Aise khilone bazaar mein bahut bikte hain" have become memorable.
