Sunil Thapa Dies During Treatment:

Veteran Nepali actor Sunil Thapa, widely recognised for his role in the Bollywood film Mary Kom, alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas, has passed away at the age of 68. Thapa died on Friday, February 6, 2026, while undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital in Thapathali, Kathmandu after his health suddenly deteriorated.

Hospital officials said Thapa was brought in unconscious, and an ECG confirmed his death early in the morning. Doctors suspect that a cardiac arrest was the cause, though a final medical report is still awaited.

Born in Dang, Nepal, Thapa had a long and varied career in film spanning more than four decades. He acted in over 300 movies across Nepali, Bollywood and regional cinema, earning respect for his strong character roles.

Thapa initially started his career in Bollywood, making his debut in the 1981 film Ek Duuje Ke Liye, and later became one of Nepali cinema’s most recognisable faces, particularly for his antagonist role 'Rate Kaila’ in the popular film Chino.

The large section of audience also knew him for his performance as the boxing coach M. Narjit Singh in the biographical sports drama Mary Kom (2014), where he starred opposite Priyanka Chopra.
