Call it ironic or poetic justice but just a day after Shahrukh Khan relinquished his record of the second highest grosser ever to Salman Khan, he is all set to unveil his next, Happy New Year, which is expected to be a record creator no less.
"That's right," comments a trade guru, "Shahrukh held the record for Chennai Express (227 crore) being the second highest grosser ever after Dhoom 3 (284 crore). However, Salman Khan's Kick has just edged past the record. A few months back this would have led to quite some hullabaloo amongst fans, trade and industry in general. However cordial relationship between the two Khans, after they hugged each other again at the Iftaar party, means the whole record deal is being underplayed."
Still, the fact remains that for the ambitious Khans, it is a battle of supremacy till the very end. If Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan are finding each other pretty much neck to neck, former is pretty much gearing up to unveil his Happy New Year which is most certainly looking at greater glory.
"Just yesterday Salman's Kick broke Shahrukh's record and today Shahrukh is launching the promo of Happy New Year en route to the film's Diwali release," an insider quips, "Of course, rumor mongers may again comment that it was all planned but then who can foresee an exact date when a record is being broken? It is all coincidence, albeit a spicy one at that. Nonetheless, for Shahrukh this is a big day indeed as he is going all out to make his Happy New Year the biggest ever. He is definitely positive about the Farah Khan directed film not just crossing the 200 crore mark but go way beyond it."
While one waits to see if his heist action-thriller-musical would go on to surpass Chennai Express and then Kick, closer home Aamir Khan is breathing down his neck with P.K. arriving a week before Christmas and expected to be dealing with nothing less than records. As for Salman Khan, rest assured he would have much bigger targets to surpass when his Bajrangi Bhaijaan arrives a year from now on Eid 2015. Till then, the ball is in Shahrukh Khan' court.
Will he make it large? Now that's a 200 crore question!
