Lilo and Stitch takes a DISMAL start:

Disney's latest release, Lilo and Stitch, the live-action adaptation of the 2002 animated flick, has had a lackluster opening at the Indian box office. According to early estimates, the film collected only Rs 30–35 lakh on its first day, marking a disappointing start for the family entertainer in one of the world's largest film markets. This is a dismal start, resulting from poor marketing and promotion, and it will not see any improvements in the coming days either.

Despite the nostalgic appeal and Disney's global brand recognition, the film failed to attract significant footfall on its debut. Trade experts attribute the weak opening to limited marketing, stiff competition from local releases, and a general decline in enthusiasm for Western children’s content among Indian audiences. The dubbed versions also failed to generate buzz, limiting its reach beyond urban multiplexes.

Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, the film reimagines the touching story of a young Hawaiian girl and her chaotic but lovable alien pet. While the film has received mixed-to-negative reviews overseas for its heartfelt storytelling and visual effects, it hasn't managed to translate that into box office success in India—at least so far.

With the weekend ahead, the film still has a chance to gain momentum, but it will need strong word-of-mouth and family turnout to improve its box office performance, which seems very unlikely since Raid 2 and Final Destination Bloodlines are already doing good business. Seems like another flop for Disney India.
