Complaint Filed Against Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma:
In a shocking turn of events, television actors and couple Puja Banerjee and Kunal Verma, who recently claimed to be victims of financial fraud, have now been accused of serious criminal offenses. Bengali film producer Shyam Sunder Dey has allegedly been kidnapped and extorted by the duo, according to a formal complaint filed by his wife, Malabika Dey.
Actress Puja Banerjee & Kunal Verma Scammed by Trusted Friend, Lose Life Savings –
Malabika took to Facebook on June 14 to share a detailed account of the harrowing incident, accusing Puja and Kunal, along with their associate Piyush Kothari, of abducting her husband during a business trip in Goa. She supported her claims by attaching WhatsApp chats, payment proofs, and an FIR copy to her post.
Below is Malavika's post:
A Harrowing Ordeal of Abduction, Extortion, and Threats by Prominent Actors Puja Banerjee and her husband Kunal Verma.
With a heavy heart, I share an incident that no family should ever have to face. On 31st May 2025, my husband, Mr. Shyam Sunder Dey, a prominent name in the Bengali film industry with over 60 films to his credit, was forcefully abducted, wrongfully confined, and extorted by individuals he once trusted as friends — Ms. Puja Banerjee (aka Puja Bose), Mr. Kunal Verma, and their influential friend Mr. Piyush Kothari.
While on a business retreat in Goa, Shyam was ambushed while driving a rented car. The assailants—including Puja Banerjee—forcefully intercepted his vehicle and abducted him to an undisclosed location. There, Shyam was assaulted, coerced, and threatened with being falsely implicated in a narcotics case if he didn’t pay a demand of circa ₹64,00,000.
Under duress and surveillance, Shyam managed to transfer ₹23,00,000, including payments to Puja’s assistant Ms. Munmun in Kolkata, and RTGS transactions to Puja and Kunal’s bank accounts. These transactions were made under extreme fear, and we have preserved all payment receipts and banking records.
Even more disturbing:
* Puja and Kunal confiscated Shyam's phones, forcibly accessed his passwords and sensitive data. We fear these may be manipulated and used against him in the future.
* They recorded coercive videos and took signatures on printed papers of him at a resort (Amber Villa, Goa), stating he was staying of his own free will.
Thanks to timely intervention and support from Goa Police under the supervision of SP North Goa, my husband has since been recovered safely.
* Police lodged an FIR against Puja Banerjee, Kunal Verma, and Piyush Kothari, along with the names of their known accomplices under sections 126(2), 137(2), 140(2), 308(2), 115(2), 351(3), 61(2) and 3(5) of BNS.
* Attached the acknowledgement copy of our complaint with Goa Police.
* Shared the email of gratitude sent to the Goa Police for their swift action in recovering my husband.
* Submitted WhatsApp and voice message evidence of extortion and threats received from Puja and Kunal.
* Provided all banking proof and payment trail to the investigating authorities and all other evidences.This incident is not only a grave criminal offence but a betrayal of trust and friendship. It has caused irreparable emotional and psychological harm to our family, especially to Shyam, who was held against his will under fear for his life.
We are pursuing this matter legally with complete faith in the justice system, and urge everyone in the creative community to be vigilant about the company they keep.🔴 Annexures attached with this post include:
* Copy of FIR
* Goa Police Complaint Acknowledgement
* Request to recover Shyam and Thank You Email to Goa Police
* RTGS & Cash Deposit SlipsWe look forward to your support during this traumatic time. We stand strong and will pursue justice till the end.
