Aditya Dhar on Work Hours Countroversy:
Amidst Deepika Padukone’s high-profile push for an 8-hour workday on film sets, director Aditya Dhar has staunchly defended the gruelling demands of his latest project. At the trailer launch of his film Dhurandhar, Dhar revealed that his cast and crew — including Ranveer Singh — routinely worked 16–18 hour days for 1.5 years, and “not even once” did anyone complain.
Dhar praised the team’s dedication, saying everyone from actors to spot boys gave their “heart and soul” to the project, and were committed to giving their “100 per cent.” Ranveer Singh echoed this sentiment, admitting they had “worked out of their skin” and that Dhar’s passion and leadership pushed them forward.

This revelation has landed in the midst of ongoing debate sparked by Deepika Padukone’s demands. Earlier, she had to lose big films like Spirit and the Kalki 2898 AD sequel because producers were unable to meet her call for capped working hours. In interviews, she has insisted that burnout is often mistaken for commitment and that an eight-hour workday fosters a healthier, more sustainable filmmaking environment.
Deepika has also pointed out a perceived double standard: She argued that many male actors have long worked eight-hour days, but their schedules never make headlines. Meanwhile, Dhar’s remarks underscore just how challenging and intense the production of Dhurandhar was — a counterpoint to her advocacy for regulated hours in Bollywood, which includes Deepika's husband.
