Piyush Mishra Slams Bollywood Stars' Extravagant Entourages:

Veteran actor-lyricist Piyush Mishra has strongly criticised the growing trend of extravagant entourages among Bollywood stars. Speaking in a recent Curly Tales interview, he called the phenomenon “a strange reality” — one he finds both unnecessary and excessive.

Mishra described a common entourage setup where actors are accompanied by “almost 8–9 people … at least 12 bodyguards,” questioning why so many are needed. “You are a single person. Who is coming to kill you?” he asked. He went on to detail how many in their circle are there just for trivial functions: “One person is to bring you a drink. One is to comb your hair, one is to do your makeup … I don’t understand the meaning behind this.” 

During an interview with Curly Tales, Mishra contrasted this with his own work style: he says he only needs “one assistant and one make-up artist.” He also praised the South Indian film industry, noting how its actors are more grounded and don’t rely on grand entourages or diva-like behaviour.

In a pointed remark, he singled out Ranbir Kapoor, with whom he has worked in Tamasha, as a rare exception in Bollywood. According to Mishra, Ranbir “doesn’t have any tantrums” and lacks “hang-ups,” despite being fully aware of his stardom. 

Mishra’s comments add to a growing conversation about the cost and culture of celebrity life in Indian cinema — from the financial burden on productions to the question of what entourage excess says about humility, professionalism, and the industry’s values.
