They Call Him OG Review Movie Talkies:

Director Sujeeth returns after Saaho with yet another large-scale action drama, They Call Him OG. While the film delivers on style, grandeur, and mass hero elevation, it unfortunately falls into the same trap as Sujeeth’s previous outing – a lack of strong writing to support its scale. With Pawan Kalyan leading the charge, the film had everything it needed to be a blockbuster, but the story and execution pull it down.

They Call Him OG Story:

The film revolves around Gambheera, also known as OG (Pawan Kalyan), once a feared gangster at the Mumbai port. He has retired from the violent world to focus on his family. But chaos erupts in his absence when a drug container sparks trouble, and a ruthless dealer, Omi (Emraan Hashmi), takes control. Tragedy strikes when Gambheera’s wife is killed during the conflict. Consumed by grief and revenge, OG returns to reclaim his lost empire and protect his daughter from Omi and his powerful international allies. What follows is his violent journey of vengeance, bloodshed, and heroism.

On paper, this looks like a gripping revenge drama. The first half has pace and style, with enough moments to keep the audience hooked. However, as the film progresses, the screenplay begins to rely on old clichés. The second half drags, characters act inconsistently, and the emotional beats fail to strike. The climax, which should have been the film’s biggest high, feels rushed and underwhelming. The face-off between Pawan Kalyan and Emraan Hashmi lacks intensity, leaving the audience wanting more. The romantic subplot, too, feels unnecessary and slows down the narrative.

They Call Him OG Cast:

Performance-wise, Pawan Kalyan carries the film on his shoulders. His screen presence is magnetic, and his massy, heroic avatar will surely thrill his fans. The action sequences are well-staged, and his larger-than-life aura gets the right moments of elevation. Emraan Hashmi, as Omi, delivers a good performance, but his character isn’t as menacing or layered as it could have been. Among the supporting cast, Prakash Raj is dependable, Sriya Reddy stands out with her raw intensity, and Priyanka Mohan adds glamour and beauty though her role is underwritten. Arjun Das shows promise but is wasted, while Tej Sapru’s return is a pleasant surprise. The rest of the cast is barely noticeable.

Technically, the film is a mixed bag. The cinematography is slick, and the action choreography is fantastic – easily the biggest strength of the movie. Some elevation scenes, with punchy dialogues, work well in theatres. The production design looks grand, giving the film a polished scale. However, the background score doesn’t pack the punch needed for a film of this size. The songs, especially the romantic track, dilute the impact of the narrative. Editing could have been tighter as the lengthy runtime makes the film harder to sit through.

They Call Him OG Movie Review:

In the end, They Call Him OG is another example of style overshadowing substance. Sujeeth once again proves he can mount films on a big canvas with scale and swagger, but without a solid script, the spectacle feels hollow. For fans of Pawan Kalyan, the film offers whistle-worthy moments and high-octane action, but for everyone else, it may feel like déjà vu of Saaho. The bottom line is, OG is high on action and style, but low on story and emotions. A missed opportunity.
