RATING - ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 3/5*

The Bhootnii Movie Review:

The Bhootnii marks a respectable entry into the horror genre, blending romantic drama and thematic values within its core narrative. The film is peppered with amusing one-liners and classic horror tropes, making it a decent one-time watch.

The Bhootnii

The film opens as a romantic comedy, transitions into horror, and eventually brings in a quirky Ghostbuster figure—BABA (a man who’s done a BA twice—yes, that’s a fresh gag). What follows is a light attempt to explore themes of true love, revenge, and modern-day romance, which might strike a chord with today’s youth. Some of the one-liners go over the top but not too bad.

The Bhootnii Story:

Shantanu (Sunny Singh) falls for a girl who leaves him for a richer suitor. On Valentine’s Day, he offers a rose, but the girl runs off with someone gifting her an iPhone. Heartbroken, he weeps beneath the so-called Virgin Tree, where he encounters the restless spirit of Mohabbat (Mouni Roy). Meanwhile, Ananya (Palak Tiwari) harbors feelings for Shantanu but hasn’t confessed. When the paranormal activity escalates, the duo summons BABA (Sanjay Dutt), a ghost hunter, who delves into the origins of the haunting to find a resolution.

The Bhootnii

Despite centering on a female ghost, The Bhootnii delivers a fresh spin on the idea of true love. The premise holds promise, though the second half doesn’t explore it as deeply as it could. The suspense element is adequate but leaves room for improvement. Roles like the “Pyaasi Aatma” haven’t surfaced in mainstream cinema much since Stree (2018), which wove in social commentary. Here, the focus is purely on love and entertainment—something the audience might just enjoy.

The Bhootnii Cast:

Sanjay Dutt’s turn as a ghost hunter is undeniably fun. He nails a few comedic moments, though the emotional beats don’t land as well. Sunny Singh delivers a passable performance, while Palak Tiwari looks stunning, even if her role doesn’t demand much acting. Mouni Roy, in her spooky avatar, adds some genuine chills at times, leaning into the familiar beats of horror cinema. BeYounique plays his part in his usual style, while Aasif Khan turns in a solid performance.

The Bhootnii

The soundtrack lacks standout hits, but that’s not a dealbreaker. The background score is effective—chilling at times, jarring at others. The sound design creates some jump-scares, though it occasionally veers into overkill. Production values are acceptable, with cinematography that’s serviceable but nothing remarkable.

The Bhootnii Movie Review:

Director Sidhaant Sachdev delivers a straightforward script with enough twists and moments of amusement to engage his target audience. While the direction doesn’t break new ground, it maintains interest over the two-hour runtime. Ultimately, The Bhootnii is an entertaining horror comedy that works as a casual weekend watch. If the trailer grabbed your interest, this Bhootiya ride may just be worth a trip to the cinema.
