Namak Halaal Review Movie Talkies:

I don’t remember many big masala comedy films from Bollywood that combined massive star power with strong box office success. Something close would be Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi and a few Shammi Kapoor–Nasir Hussain entertainers. Namak Halaal stands tall among those top scorers. It boasts a big ensemble cast, chartbuster music, a solid masala-driven narrative, and hilarious comedy that makes it a complete blockbuster watch. Why don’t we make films like this anymore?

Namak Halaal

We know Prakash Mehra for Zanjeer, Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, and Lawaaris—hardcore masala entertainers—and then he tried something comical with Hera Pheri. But Namak Halaal was a total fun riot, a massive surprise in the comedy genre. The film is packed with comedy, drama, emotions, romance, family values, and the classic lost-and-found reconciliation formula that completes the circle of life in masala movies. It’s one of the finest examples of how well one can write in the comedy-masala space—something only David Dhawan and Rohit Shetty managed to achieve later.

Namal Halaal Movie Review:

The screenplay is fantastic, with scenes that blend perfectly into the evolving conflicts of the story. And did I forget to mention Bappi Lahiri’s chartbuster album? Oh gee. What an outstanding soundtrack! Amitabh Bachchan made Pag Ghungroo Baandh iconic, Aaj Rapat Jaayen To remains one of the sexiest songs ever with perfect timing in the film, Jawani Janeman showcases Parveen Babi’s pure sultriness—you simply can’t take your eyes off her—Raat Baaki continues that vibe, and Thodi Si Jo Pee Li Hai is the cherry on top. Hats off to Bappi da and every singer for creating timeless classics.

Namak Halaal

This is one of Amitabh Bachchan’s best performances in comedy. Shashi Kapoor is fine in his role. Waheeda Rehman is apt, Parveen Babi breathtaking, and Om Prakash top-notch. I still wonder how Prakash Mehra conceived casting Smita Patil here—it’s a sexy surprise from her.

Prakash Mehra delivers a total fun riot with many laugh-out-loud, timeless moments. It does get slightly preachy towards the end, but the job is already done by then. Overall, a very nice comedy.
