War 2 Makes 70 Crore Loss:

One of the most anticipated Bollywood action spectacles of recent times, War 2, has turned out to be a disappointment at the box office. Backed by a massive budget of around ₹450 crore by Yash Raj Films, the film was expected to replicate or even surpass the success of its predecessor War(2019). However, despite promotions, star power, and high-octane action, the film has failed to recover its investment.

From its non-theatrical avenues, War 2 managed to secure ₹150 crore through digital rights. At the box office, the film is set to collect a theatrical share of around ₹140 crore, bringing its total recovery to approximately ₹290 crore, says a report in Bollywood Hungama.

The situation in the Telugu market highlights the extent of the setback. The film’s Telugu rights were sold for ₹90 crore, but the distributor share has amounted to only ₹40 crore, resulting in an estimated loss of ₹50 crore for regional buyers. Factoring in the overall gap, trade exoertd are pegging the film’s total loss at nearly ₹70 crore.

The underperformance of War 2 raises serious questions about sequels. With audiences becoming increasingly selective, even franchise films with star-studded casts and lavish action sequences are struggling to deliver. For the industry, War 2 stands as yet another reminder that big investments, faces and sequels cannot guarantee big returns at the box office. You need content to survive. Ayan Mukerji's flick lacked that for sure.
