South actor Vinayakan, who played the feared villain in Jailer (2021), has confirmed that he will return in the upcoming sequel, Jailer 2, even though his character died in the first film.

Speaking in a recent interview with a South media portal, Vinayakan acknowledged the curiosity surrounding his involvement. When asked whether he will appear in the sequel, he replied, “Yes, I am part of Jailer 2,” though he declined to share details about the nature of his role. This becomes interesting when you realise that his character was killed in part one, then how can he come back in part two? Maybe a flashback scene or a different character?

In the original film, his portrayal of Varman — a villainous yet unexpectedly comedic character — had struck a chord with audiences. Vinayakan clarified that while he is involved in the sequel, it isn’t certain whether his presence will come through flashback sequences or a different narrative device. He asked the fans to “watch the film and find out.” 

Jailer 2 has already generated a lot of excitement: besides Vinayakan, the film’s cast reportedly includes Rajinikanth, with other big names like Mohanlal and Vijay Sethupathi also being linked to the project. Mithun Chakraborty and Vidya Balan are also part of the ensemble.

With production underway and the ensemble growing stronger, fans are eagerly waiting to see how the sequel reconciles Vinayakan’s return with his character’s previous fate. Will we see Rajnikanth vs Vinayakan face-off once again?
