Thug Life director Mani Ratnam about Kamal Haasan:

Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan have worked together on Nayakan (1987), which has become a cult classic. Now, after 38 years, the two cinematic geniuses reunite for Thug Life. While speaking at the song launch of the film, the filmmakers praised the legendary actor.

Discussing Kamal Haasan and his unique ability to balance two types of cinema, Mani Ratnam shared, "It is not just that he is a brilliant actor; the whole world knows that. It is the fact that he still loves cinema and possesses this unique talent for balancing between mainstream cinema while also breaking barriers on the other side. 

Yesterday, he came to the office for dubbing. We were in the editing studio suite. He called us outside and described the sound he experienced in the US. That's quite amazing. It happens every day on the shoot."

"We all learn a lot from Kamal Sir. When he is acting in a film, 50% of the burden on the director is relieved. He takes care of many things—not only for himself but also for the people around him and all the actors. He makes it very believable and very real, unlike something scripted beforehand. Thank you, sir. Thank you for that. And thanks to everyone," he added.

Thug Life is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, R. Mahendran, Madras Talkies, and Siva Ananth. The film stars Kamal Haasan as Rangaraaya Sakthivel Naicker, along with Silambarasan TR, Trisha Krishnan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Joju George, Nasser, Ali Fazal, Sanya Malhotra, and more. The film is scheduled to be released on June 5, 2025.
