Thug Life actor Kamal Haasan on Cinema:

Kamal Haasan and the entire team of Thug Life were present for the launch of the first single from the film, Jinguchaa, on Friday. The actor candidly discussed the film and this medium of art at the event. Here's what he said.

Thug Life: "Kamal Haasan has a unique talent for balancing between mainstream cinema and breaking barriers," says Mani Ratnam –

Kamal Haasan stated, "In this (Thug Life), I have distributors who will stand by us—who stood by us before. That's very important for a film. Some people are so consumed by their own fame, glory, and fear that they forget this is the most democratic art ever. And we are glad to be part of it."

He continued, "There are people here. These are only heads of departments. There are people working under them. There are great talents. Some of them are tomorrow's talents—if not today's. If a good talent comes, all of us will be glad to welcome him and part ways. Let that person walk across. That is going to be the future of cinema."

"Cinema is going to become more and more democratic. Yes, there will be critics. But it is moving forward—slowly, nevertheless. We know this. We understand what slow means. We are able to do what we spoke about 45 years ago—only now. And I am very happy about this film—because we have discussed many films, we have made films together—but I am proud to announce this film. Mr. Mani Ratnam, after speaking for so many years with me, has made the first movie in Rajkamal Films International. This is a great achievement for me to facilitate this to happen. Mr. Chandrahassan has been trying, but Mahendran has succeeded. I should thank Mahendran. If we had only spoken, we would have done nothing. We would not have accomplished it. But he did it. We have been talking for 36 years. We have not done anything," said the actor-producer.
