The makers of Thamma, the latest film in the expanding Horror Universe, have officially announced its release date. The much-awaited movie starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and Paresh Rawal will arrive in cinemas on Tuesday, October 21, coinciding with Laxmi Pooja.

While releasing a film on Laxmi Pooja day is often considered risky due to reduced evening footfalls, this strategy seems to be well-timed. The very next day, Wednesday, October 22, is one of the biggest holidays of the year as families celebrate the main Diwali festivities. Following that, Thursday, October 23, marks Bhaidooj, which is also observed widely across India.

This sets up Thamma for a strong start, giving it a 6-day extended Diwali weekend. The film’s run will look like this:

Day 1 – Tuesday, October 21 (Laxmi Pooja)

Day 2 – Wednesday, October 22 (Diwali Holiday)

The lineup ensures that if Thamma connects with audiences, it could record huge box office numbers over this festive stretch. Even if the opening day is average, the holiday wave can provide a solid boost. Still, releasing the film on Post Diwali Day is termed as a better idea because it's the biggest holiday of the year. We have seen many movies scoring huge figures on this day in the past.

However, trade experts caution that festival releases always depend on word of mouth. If the content clicks, Thamma can enjoy a dream run. But if audiences reject it, even Diwali holidays may not prevent a downfall.
