Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya, who has given some of Salman Khan’s two of most memorable blockbuster, says he is struggling to come up with the right story for the superstar. The director admitted that their much-talked-about new project has been put on hold because he has not been able to crack the script.

Barjatya, known for classics like Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, told PTI that he doesn’t like to start a film until the story feels complete. “Sometimes you are unable to crack the climax or get the kundali of the character in place. If I can’t, I don’t start a project. I’ve barely made seven films, but this is how I work,” he explained.

He admitted that the biggest challenge this time is creating something relevant and fresh for Salman, who will turn soon. Despite the star’s recent films not performing as expected at the box office, Barjatya defended him, saying, “Everyone should be allowed to make a mistake and learn. He is such a good person, so strong, that he is going to come back in a very big way.”

Sooraj Barjatya and Salman Khan created box-office history with their collaborations. Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989) became one of the biggest blockbusters of its time, earning over ₹28 crore worldwide, a massive figure back then. Later, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994) shattered all records, collecting more than ₹130 crore globally, and is still remembered as one of Indian cinema’s most successful films.
