Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan made an appearance at the WAVES 2025 summit held at BKC, Mumbai, earlier today. He was joined by frequent collaborator and acclaimed actress Deepika Padukone for a conversation titled The Journey, moderated by filmmaker Karan Johar, who brought his signature flair to the session.

During the discussion, Khan spoke at length about India’s vast potential as a global filming destination. He highlighted the opportunities for international filmmakers to consider India as a preferred location to “Shoot in India,” and emphasized the importance of forging partnerships and agreements with global film bodies to bolster and expand the reach of India’s entertainment sector.

Khan also addressed the need to make cinema more accessible and affordable, particularly for audiences in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. He proposed revitalizing the single-screen theatre experience in these regions, which he believes could significantly increase the reach and inclusivity of Indian cinema.

Echoing Khan’s sentiments, Deepika Padukone underlined the significance of the WAVES initiative, describing it as a timely platform that brings together the diverse verticals of the media and entertainment industries. She noted that, until now, many segments such as films, OTT platforms, animation, AI, and immersive technologies had operated largely in isolation. According to Padukone, WAVES offers a much-needed opportunity to foster greater convergence across these domains, creating a more integrated and forward-looking ecosystem.
