PM Narendra Modi at Waves 2025:
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated WAVES 2025—India’s first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit—at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai today. Addressing the gathering, he extended greetings on the occasion of Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Statehood Day. Acknowledging the presence of international dignitaries, ambassadors, and leaders from the creative industries, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the summit, noting that representatives from over 100 countries—including artists, innovators, investors, and policymakers—had come together to foster a global ecosystem of creativity and talent.
WAVES, he said, “is more than an acronym—it is a symbol of culture, creativity, and global connection.” He added that the summit brings to light the vast landscape of film, music, gaming, animation, and storytelling, offering a global platform for artists and creators to collaborate. Shri Modi congratulated all participants on this milestone event and extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests from India and around the world.

Reflecting on India’s cinematic legacy, the Prime Minister recalled that on May 3, 1913, India’s first feature film Raja Harishchandra, directed by Dadasaheb Phalke, was released. He noted the recent celebration of Phalke’s birth anniversary and highlighted Indian cinema’s century-long journey in sharing the nation’s cultural spirit across the globe. From Raj Kapoor’s popularity in Russia and Satyajit Ray’s accolades at Cannes to the global triumph of RRR at the Oscars, he underlined the influence of Indian filmmakers on international storytelling. He also celebrated the contributions of cinematic greats like Guru Dutt, Ritwik Ghatak, A.R. Rahman, and S.S. Rajamouli, noting how each has helped bring Indian culture to audiences worldwide. He added that India has honored many of these legends with commemorative postage stamps in recognition of their enduring legacy.
Stressing the value of India’s creative power and the importance of global partnerships, Shri Modi shared that he has often interacted with professionals from various creative sectors—including gaming, music, and film—gaining deeper insights into the industry. He recounted a unique initiative launched during Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary, in which singers from 150 countries joined voices to perform Vaishnav Jan To, a devotional hymn penned by Narsinh Mehta centuries ago. This artistic collaboration, he said, had a profound global impact, uniting people through shared values. He also noted that several attendees at WAVES 2025 had contributed short video tributes to the Gandhi One Fifty campaign, promoting the Mahatma’s ideals. Concluding his address, the Prime Minister stated that the collective strength of India’s creative community—now joined by global collaboration—has laid the foundation for what WAVES represents: a realized vision of cultural unity and artistic innovation on the world stage.
