Why Sameera Reddy Lost Sushmita Sen's Role In Main Hoon Na:

Bollywood filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan recently shared an interesting behind-the-scenes fact about her hit 2004 film Main Hoon Na. In a conversation on her YouTube channel with actress Sameera Reddy, Farah revealed that she had initially considered casting Sameera for the role that eventually went to Sushmita Sen.

Farah said she first noticed Sameera in the popular music video Aahista Kijiye Baatein, where the actress appeared in traditional Indian attire. Impressed by her look and screen presence, Farah thought Sameera would be perfect for the role of Chandni, the college professor character that Sushmita Sen later made iconic.

A surprised Sameera asked why she wasn’t cast in the film. Farah explained that things changed by the time casting was being finalised because Sameera had already signed the film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya, which she was committed to at that time. This meant she couldn’t take up the part in Main Hoon Na, and so the role went to Sushmita Sen instead.

Main Hoon Na, starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead, was Farah Khan’s directorial debut and went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2004. Sushmita Sen’s character of Chandni, known for her elegant saree looks and memorable chemistry with Shah Rukh Khan, remains one of the most popular roles in her career.

Sameera, now mostly away from mainstream cinema, appeared happy but a little disappointed by the revelation, saying she was curious to know why the opportunity didn’t work out.
