Rani Mukerji Reveals Aamir Khan Asked Her To Dub Her Voice:

Rani Mukerji recently revisited an emotional chapter from the early days of her career, revealing how she was once asked to dub her voice for a film starring Aamir Khan. Speaking during her 30-year celebration event in the industry, where she was in conversation with filmmaker Karan Johar, the actress opened up about the professional compromise that left her deeply upset but also shaped her journey ahead.

Recalling her experience on Ghulam, Rani said that as a newcomer, she had very little say in creative decisions. Acting opposite Aamir Khan, already a major superstar at the time, was a significant opportunity for her. However, she later learned from director Vikram Bhatt that the decision to dub her voice was taken collectively by the filmmakers, with Aamir playing the role of the “bad cop” to convey the message.

Rani shared that Aamir explained the decision to her by stressing the importance of doing what was best for the film. He cited Sridevi as an example, pointing out that her voice had been dubbed in several films, yet it never stopped her from becoming a legendary star. According to Rani, Aamir advised her to surrender to the needs of the project for the greater good of cinema.

While the logic made sense, Rani admitted the experience was emotionally difficult. She described it as upsetting but said she chose not to express her disappointment openly, understanding the importance of being a team player on set.

The turning point came when Karan Johar stepped in. Rani fondly recalled a moment during a teaser shoot when Karan asked her if her voice was being dubbed in Ghulam. On learning that it was, he told her he loved her voice and insisted she dub for his film. That reassurance proved pivotal.

Thanking Karan publicly, Rani said his faith in her voice helped her retain it in future projects, marking an important milestone in her illustrious career.
