Randeep Hooda on why he rejected Rang De Basanti:
Randeep Hooda has made some wrong choices in his career, and one of the biggest mistakes was rejecting Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Rang De Basanti (2006), starring Aamir Khan. Recently, he opened up about declining the film for a couple of reasons.

Randeep was speaking to Shubhankar Mishra when he revealed that he rejected Rang De Basanti for two reasons. One was that his girlfriend advised him not to do the film, and the other was Ram Gopal Varma. RGV asked him whether he wanted to stand behind Aamir Khan in the poster when he was offering him a lead role. Thinking that RGV was right, Hooda skipped Rang De Basanti, which could have easily become the best film of his career.

"If I had done that film, I would have been in a different league. I was offered Bhagat Singh's role in the film. I did the audition, and they liked it. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra would come to me, sometimes driving drunk, and he would ask me, 'Kar le kar le picture karle.'"

He mentioned RGV's words, saying, "RGV told me, ‘I’m thinking of casting you in the lead role in D, and you want to go stand behind Aamir in the poster?’ Meri Jaat akad nikal aayi (My Jaat arrogance came up), and I said, ‘I won’t stand behind Aamir.’ That happened, and I also left Rock On for similar reasons. I’ve always worked with slightly different kinds of filmmakers and producers, not the industry insiders—maybe that’s why my growth was slower. I used to think I was enough and that craft was everything, but that’s not the case."
