Moana Live-Action Remake Faces Backlash Online:

Disney’s launch of the trailer of a live-action remake of Moana has sparked a strong—and mostly negative—response across Reddit and social media. Many fans feel the remake is unnecessary, especially since the original animated film came out less than a decade ago.  Critics say it’s a “pointless” remake made for money, rather than storytelling.

On Reddit, users didn’t mince words. One commenter on r/moana wrote:

“Why Moana is getting a live-action remake in literally less than 10 years … is beyond me!” 

Another added:

“Just don’t watch it??? No one’s making you … put this energy towards something productive.” 

And from r/disney:

“This sucks. Live action remake of a film that came out 7 years ago? Why even make animated films if they are just going to do this. Disney is creatively bankrupt.” 

Some express disappointment in how Disney treats Moana compared to other franchises.

“Disney just released a sequel … and next year they will release a live action remake that breaks the record for the shortest interval of the remakes … I really hope they could cancel Moana’s remake as well.” 

On Twitter, too, many accuse Disney of disrespecting animation itself. One user wrote:

“Moana came out in 2016. It’s not even a decade old yet. A live action remake isn’t just disrespectful, it’s pointless.”

Others say the remake feels too CGI-heavy and “rushed,” arguing that the original’s magic is being diluted. 

Overall, fans are tired of what they see as a trend: Disney churning out remakes of very recent films, seemingly in pursuit of profit—not heart.
