Lilo and Stitch Flops in India:
Disney's latest animated offering, Lilo and Stitch, has failed to make any impact at the Indian box office, recording a disappointing opening weekend despite its global popularity. The film, which released on Friday, managed to collect only around ₹2.25 crore nett over its first three days and has emerged as a flop in India.
Lilo and Stitch Crushes Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning by a Double Margin in the Opening Weekend –
The film opened to a lukewarm response on Friday, earning ₹35 lakh nett. While there was a slight upward trend on Saturday with ₹90 Lakhs nett, and a further rise on Sunday with ₹1 crore nett, the overall numbers remained low for a Disney release. Given the brand value of the studio and the nostalgia associated with Lilo & Stitch, these numbers are very low, and frankly, it was very much expected after the poor promotions and buzz. The film faced competition from the likes of Final Destination: Bloodlines and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, with the former emerging as a hit and the latter being an above-average grosser so far.

Industry experts believe that the film’s poor performance could be attributed to limited buzz, minimal marketing in India, and the fact that the film is more popular among Western audiences. Additionally, Indian animated content or dubbed international animation tends to perform better when tied to major franchises like Frozen or The Lion King. With ₹2.25 crore nett in its kitty after the first weekend, Lilo & Stitch will need an extraordinary hold over the weekdays to have any chance at a respectable lifetime total. However, given the tepid word-of-mouth and average audience turnout, the film seems unlikely to recover its ground in the coming days. Unless it finds a sudden surge in footfalls, Lilo & Stitch may go down as another Hollywood animated film that failed to connect with Indian audiences.
