Khal Nayak 2 Announcement Coming:
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has once again confirmed that a sequel to his 1993 blockbuster Khal Nayak is in the works, with the announcement scheduled for Diwali 2025 (October 21).
“The studio making the sequel will make an announcement on October 21. I cannot say much about it. But yes, a sequel to Khal Nayak is being planned,” Ghai told Midday in a recent interview.

The original Khal Nayak, released on August 6, 1993, starred Sanjay Dutt as the notorious criminal Ballu (Balaram Prasad), with Madhuri Dixit as Ganga and Jackie Shroff as Inspector Ram. The action-crime thriller became a major commercial success, grossing approximately Rs. 24 crore worldwide and ranking as the second-highest-grossing Hindi film of that year. It also gave us one of the most memorable songs of the era, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai.
According to a source familiar with the sequel’s development: “The movie ended with Ballu being sentenced to life imprisonment. In the second instalment, Sanjay’s character will take the story forward with young actors. After Khal Nayak’s success, it was remade in Telugu, Tamil, and Punjabi. This time, the idea is to make the sequel in Hindi as well as other languages.” The idea, the source added, “is to include stories of heroic antagonists like Ballu, who was a victim of his situation.”
While the script has been reportedly completed and the team is finalising cast and crew details, Ghai has clarified that no actor has been officially signed yet. Fans will thus be eagerly awaiting the Diwali announcement, hoping for details on whether original stars like Sanjay Dutt or Madhuri Dixit might return in cameo roles or whether an entirely fresh generation of actors will carry forward the saga.
