Jana Nayagan NEW RELEASE DATE Revealed:
Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film Jana Nayagan is now looking at a possible Republic Day release in January 2026, after running into major censor certification issues that stalled its original release plans. The Tamil action drama, widely celebrated as Vijay’s final film before entering full-time politics, was initially scheduled to hit theatres for the Pongal festival period in early January but could not do so because of delays with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The producers had planned a January 9 release, but the film was postponed at the last minute after the censor board did not issue the necessary certificate in time, even though modifications and suggested cuts were reportedly already completed. The uncertainty led makers to seek legal intervention, with the matter moving between the Madras High Court and the Supreme Court. Most recently, the Supreme Court declined to grant immediate censor clearance and asked the producers to return to the Madras High Court for further hearing, prolonging the wait for a release date.
Because of this ongoing legal and certification limbo, the Jana Nayagan team is now eyeing January 26, Republic Day, as a potential new theatrical release window. This date offers a wide release opportunity if the film obtains its censor certificate and clears court proceedings before then. Well, this depends on CBFC clearance and there is no clarity on it yet.
Fans and industry observers are closely watching developments, as the film’s fate now hinges on upcoming court dates later this month. The certification row has also sparked broader conversations about the film censorship process and its impact on big festival releases in Indian cinema.
