Rahman explained that although he belongs to the Muslim faith, his early education gave him a deep exposure to Indian culture. “I studied in a Brahmin school, and every year we had Ramayana and Mahabharata,” he said, adding that these stories taught him about virtue and higher ideals. Because of this, he feels a personal connection to the values in the Ramayana, regardless of religious labels.

Rahman said that people should rise above narrow thinking and welcome the beauty in different cultures.

Rahman also reflected on the collaboration itself, noting the diversity involved. He pointed out that legendary composer Hans Zimmer, who is Jewish, is working with him on the Ramayana score, a story rooted in Hindu tradition. Rahman said this mix of backgrounds makes the project especially meaningful to him, and he feels proud to contribute to a work that represents India’s cultural heritage to the world.

His comments underline a message of unity and respect across religions, showing how art and culture can bring people together beyond faith and background.
