Imtiaz Ali Hints at Rockstar Sequel:
Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali's Rockstar (2011) may not have been a big hit at the box office, but the film has wowed the younger generation. The reasons include, of course, its performances and music. The film has been discussed regarding the sequel, which Ali has mentioned many times but has never materialized. During a recent interaction with Komal Nahta, the Highway creator expressed that he may make a sequel, Rockstar 2, and it may be nice.
Ali was speaking about the spiritual sequel Love Aaj Kal 2, starring Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan, which was a huge flop at the box office. According to the filmmaker, he could have approached a few things differently, and the film might have succeeded. He took the blame, stating that it wasn't due to the new cast, eventually mentioning Rockstar 2.
EXCLUSIVE: Salman Khan and Allu Arjun to come together for Atlee's next? BASELESS RUMOUR –
"Not because of casting, but whenever you are making a sequel, you should have a proper reason for it. I had that reason, but I wasn’t able to express it. At least, it didn’t get conveyed in the film's publicity. In a way, yes. Though I had a new story in Love Aaj Kal 2, the film didn’t work. So unless it is really necessary, I am not interested in making sequels. But never say never—Rockstar 2 may be nice," said the Rockstar creator during the interview.
Rockstar starred Ranbir Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Aditi Rao Hydari, Piyush Mishra, Shernaz Patel, Kumud Mishra, Sanjana Sanghi, Aakash Dahiya, and Shammi Kapoor in pivotal supporting roles. The film made over Rs. 100 crore at the box office during its initial run and then had a successful re-run recently, indicating its popularity among youth.
