Why Hrithik Roshan Was Forced to Rewrite Dhurandhar Review?

The fact that Hrithik Roshan felt the need to publish a second review of Dhurandhar speaks volumes about the pressure and polarization surrounding modern-day cinema — especially when politics and popular art collide. Don't you agree?

In his first post, Hrithik praised the film’s storytelling and technical craft, but also admitted he “may disagree with the politics of it.”  That candid balance — applauding the art while rejecting its ideological messaging — triggered a wave of criticism, trolling and accusations of hypocrisy, forcing him to clarify and reaffirm his stance with a second post. He disagreed with politics and filmmaker's approach towards it, which was his own opinion and deserved some respect. Yet, even fans started slamming him and blamed it all on his girlfriend Saba Azad.

What’s happening here is not just about one actor’s take on one film. It reflects a broader trend: in a time of charged nationalistic narratives and highly divided public opinion, movies like Dhurandhar, with its heavy political undertones, are rarely judged only for their cinematic merits. Instead, they become battlegrounds for ideological warfare — and everyone commenting becomes vulnerable. For someone like Hrithik, calling out the politics while praising the craft turned into a tightrope walk. If he had remained silent about the politics, he would risk being seen as complicit. If he spoke, he risked a backlash.

His second post feels less like a casual movie-review note and more like a necessary damage-control act — a signal that even established stars are not immune to the social media “court of public opinion.” In the end, it sums up a sad reality: in today’s climate, sometimes speaking honestly about art also means bracing for attack. If someone like Hrithik can succumb to the pressure, one can't imagine what regular critics and movie reviewers have to face.
