Housefull 5 is set to be the biggest release for Akshay Kumar ever with 5000 screens in India, but the stakes are also high this time. Since this is a high-budget film and Akshay hasn't delivered any huge hits for almost six years now, the economics and ROI of this film need to be discussed ahead of its theatrical release.

After 6 back-to-back non-hits, can Akshay Kumar score a hit with Housefull 5?

Housefull 5 has a huge cast and boasts franchise value, but the previous films haven't been huge hits. The biggest hit in the Housefull franchise has 1.58 crore footfalls, which will make for around 280 crore nett in today's time. So, in order to become the biggest hit of the franchise, Housefull 5 needs to do business of over 300 crore nett in India, which will also mean Akshay's entry into the 250 crore and 300 crore club.

As for the return on investments, Housefull 5 will need to do business of around 340-350 crore at the worldwide box office, which is almost 50 crore higher than the highest grosser of Akshay Kumar, Good Newwz (304 crore gross). Akshay's last film that came close to this number was Sooryavanshi (2021), which was released right after the pandemic. With a normal release, the cop saga would have easily become the highest-grossing film of Akshay Kumar by a good margin.

Housefull 5 should collect 250 crore nett in India and $6 million overseas to mark a hit success, but will it do that?

Looking at Akshay's current run and the average business of Housefull 5 films, it's difficult to say that the film will actually go past that mark, but yes, it definitely has potential. 5000 screens in India and 1000 screens overseas give a potential of 1000 crore gross, but we don't need to talk that big. Even half of it, i.e., 400-450 crore gross would make it a super hit. Now, all eyes are on this big-budget comedy.
