Backed by Dharma Productions, Homebound has already made waves on the global stage. The film was screened at prestigious festivals like the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and Cannes, where it received appreciation for its sensitive storytelling and realistic treatment. Now, the Oscar entry adds another feather to its cap.

Homebound

The film stars Vishal Jethwa, Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor. Homebound tells the story of two best friends trying to tackle career choices and facing discrimination in society. Neeraj Ghaywan, known for his acclaimed debut Masaan, is back with another beautiful tale.

Karan Johar shares, “We are deeply honoured and humbled that HOMEBOUND has been selected as India’s official entry to the Academy Awards… Neeraj Ghaywan’s labour of love is sure to a find a home in a million hearts across the world”

In our review of Homebound, we wrote:

Much like his first, this one is slow-paced and deliberate in its storytelling, but it never feels aimless. Instead, it weaves an honest narrative about friendship, ambition, and the harsh truths of society, all while introducing new characters and conflicts that add freshness to the journey. At its heart, Homebound is a film about two best friends navigating the crossroads of their lives—caught between the last phases of their studies and the uncertain beginnings of their careers. The story soon takes a deeper, more subversive turn as it unfolds against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, a global tragedy that changed and destroyed countless lives.
