The Hindi box office witnessed a dull Friday as two new Hindi releases, Happy Patel and Rahu Ketu, opened to low numbers, making their theatrical future look uncertain.

Happy Patel, backed by Aamir Khan Productions, collected approximately ₹1.10 crore nett on its opening day. Despite curiosity around the film’s unconventional adult humour and its association with a reputed production house, the film failed to attract strong footfalls. Limited mass appeal, mixed word of mouth, and niche content appear to have affected its opening performance. For a film of this scale, the day-one collection is considered underwhelming.

Even weaker was the opening of Rahu Ketu, which managed to collect around ₹90 lakh nett on day one. The film, starring Fukrey duo, Varun Sharma and Pulkit Samrat, struggled to generate buzz before release. Poor advance bookings and lack of strong promotional push reflected clearly in its box office numbers. Falling below the ₹1 crore mark on opening day puts the film in a risky zone from the very start.

What makes the situation more concerning for both films is the performance of Dhurandhar, which is currently running in its seventh week. Despite being an older release, Dhurandhar has earned more than these two new films on the same day, highlighting the weak audience pull for the latest releases.

Given the low openings, both Happy Patel and Rahu Ketu will require exceptional growth over the weekend to stay afloat. However, with competition from holdover titles and muted audience response, trade experts believe both films may struggle to survive at the box office in the coming days.
