FWICE demands Ban on Ghooskhor Pandat:

The upcoming film Ghooskhor Pandat, starring Manoj Bajpayee and directed by Neeraj Pandey, has sparked a major controversy over its title. The movie’s name has been criticised by industry groups and public leaders who say it could hurt community sentiments and disrupt social harmony.

Film Body Seeks Ban on Manoj Bajpai's Ghooskhor Pandat Due To Controversial Title –

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), a large film workers’ body, has raised strong objections. Leaders from the organisation argue that the title appears to single out a particular community in a negative way and could be seen as disrespectful. FWICE has urged Netflix and other platforms to reconsider the title and has even called for a ban on the film unless the issue is resolved.

FWICE president BN Tiwari said the title could “disgrace a community” and insisted that content which harms social unity should not be allowed. In some statements, he went further, saying the film should be stopped entirely and that the industry might refuse to cooperate with the project if no change is made.

The row has reached legal and political arenas too. A petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court challenging the film’s release, and police cases have been registered in some states. In response, some protests and public demonstrations have taken place.

In reaction to the backlash, director Neeraj Pandey has said the film does not target any community and that the title refers to a fictional character in the story. Meanwhile, promotional materials have been taken down to respect public sentiment. The controversy highlights ongoing sensitivities in how films are titled and presented, especially when they touch on community identities. What do you think about the title of the film?
