Producer Smita Thackeray is gearing up to revive the much-loved comedy franchise Haseena Maan Jaayegi with a sequel that promises to blend nostalgia with a fresh, contemporary twist. According to a source close to the development, the scripting of Haseena Maan Jaayegi 2 is currently underway in full swing.

The upcoming film is said to retain the core essence and comic spirit of the original 1999 entertainer, while the storyline is being revamped to appeal to today’s audience. In a significant development, filmmaker Farhad Samji has been signed on to both write and direct the sequel, confirmed a source while speaking to BollyHungama. Samji was supposed to direct Hera Pheri 3 earlier, but was replaced by Priyadarshan.

Interestingly, the makers had initially hoped to bring back veteran director David Dhawan, who helmed the original film. However, Dhawan reportedly was not keen on revisiting another one of his past hits after previously returning to franchises like Judwaa and Coolie No. 1. This led the team to approach Farhad Samji for the project.

The source also revealed that Samji came on board only after seeking David Dhawan’s blessings, indicating a respectful handover of the franchise. With the writing process progressing rapidly, the makers are aiming to move into the casting stage by March 2026.

While no actors have been officially announced yet, the sequel is already generating curiosity among fans of the original film. If all goes as planned, Haseena Maan Jaayegi 2 could soon join the growing list of Bollywood legacy sequels.
