Famous Studios to Turn Into a 69-Storey Luxury Tower

Mumbai’s landmark Famous Studios, which has been around since 1943, is set to change forever. The Roongta family, who own the studio, has tied up with K Raheja Corp to redevelop the 1.5-acre plot in Mahalaxmi. The deal is said to be worth around ₹659 crore.

The plan is to build a 69-floor luxury tower on the site. The project will have 3 and 4 BHK flats, starting from the 9th floor. Lower floors will also have some commercial spaces. Spread across nearly 70,000 sq. ft., the tower will overlook the Mahalaxmi Race Course and the Arabian Sea. It is also expected to have good metro connectivity, with the upcoming Science Museum station nearby.

For decades, Famous Studios was a busy space where many Bollywood films, TV shows, and ads were shot. From recording to editing, the studio played a big role in Mumbai’s entertainment industry. But now, after almost 80 years, the old studio will make way for modern homes. Demolition work is likely to begin after Christmas.

K Raheja Corp already has some premium projects in the area, like Vivarea and Modern Vivarea. With this new project, they are adding another high-rise landmark to Mahalaxmi. It’s the end of an era for Famous Studios, but also the start of a new chapter in Mumbai’s ever-changing skyline.
