Disney and Pixar have officially announced a sequel to one of their most celebrated animated classics, Coco. Coco 2 will be released in 2029 (Movie Talkies).

Coco 2 announced for 2029:

The story of a 12-year-old Miguel, who tugged at our hearts 8 years ago, is set to return to the screens. Coco (2017), one of the most celebrated animated classics from Pixar Animation Studios, is getting a sequel. Disney and Pixar have officially announced Coco 2. The film is that for 2029 release, as declared in the official announcement.

It's definitely good news for the fans of the Oscar-winning animated film, and hopefully, the sequel will be worth the wait. The announcement of Coco 2 was made by CEO Bob Iger today, March 20, 2025, during The Walt Disney Company’s Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart, and adventure. And we can’t wait to share more soon,” said Disney's chief executive officer. Coco 2 will see the reunion of the team behind the original film from 2017, as director Lee Unkrich and co-director Adrian Molina come together for the much-awaited sequel.

Lee Unkrich's Coco told the story of a 12-year-old boy who enters the vibrant land of the dead to dig deep into his family's history. The boy seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family and reverse their ban on music, as his great-grandmother is trying to preserve memories.
