Deepika Padukone quits The Intern Remake:
The much-awaited Hindi remake of The Intern has taken a new turn, as Deepika Padukone has decided to step away from acting in the project. Originally, the 2015 Hollywood film starred Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro in the lead roles. The Hindi version was first announced with Rishi Kapoor playing De Niro’s role, but after his passing, Amitabh Bachchan stepped in. Deepika was finalised to portray Hathaway’s character, but now she will only serve as a producer.

“This time, Deepika will step away from acting in the film to serve solely as a producer, overseeing the creative and logistical reboot. A new leading lady is being cast to play the part she was once slated to perform,” a source told Midday.

The original The Intern, directed by Nancy Meyers, tells the story of a 70-year-old widower, Ben Whittaker, who takes up an internship at an online fashion retail company. Initially seen as an odd fit for the young and fast-paced workplace, Ben wins over the team and forms a strong bond with the company’s workaholic founder, Jules Ostin. The film beautifully explores themes of friendship, mentorship, work-life balance, and the value of experience.

The Hindi remake is expected to retain the heartwarming premise while adapting it to suit Indian sensibilities. With Amitabh Bachchan in the mentor’s role and a new female lead to be announced soon, the project continues to generate buzz. Pandemic, Deepika's maternity and now this—this project has been through a lot and hopefully, it goes on floors soon.
