Complaint Filed Against Ranveer Singh For Mocking Scared Daiva:

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is embroiled in a fresh controversy after Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) filed a formal complaint against him, accusing him of “mocking” the sacred “Daiva” scene from the film Kantara: Chapter 1 at International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025’s closing ceremony in Goa.

According to the complaint, submitted to the Panaji police station, the HJS alleges that during a public segment, Ranveer referred to the deity (depicted as “Chavundi” or Daiva) as a “female ghost,” and proceeded to imitate the character — a move they claimed was “derogatory” and hurt religious sentiments. They cited the offence under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, urging authorities to register a case.

Videos that surfaced online show Ranveer using exaggerated expressions — crossed eyes, tongue out, and a “primordial scream” — during his mimicry, which many viewers found deeply disrespectful. The clip quickly ignited a social media storm, with netizens calling the act insensitive, tone-deaf and culturally offensive.

Interestingly, reports suggest that Rishab Shetty — director-actor of Kantara — had purportedly warned Ranveer beforehand not to recreate the Daiva scene on stage, cautioning him about potential backlash, but the actor went ahead anyway. Rather, we all saw Rishab enjoying Singh's mimicry.

In response to the complaint, the HJS is demanding a public apology from Ranveer and urging that event-organisers — especially of high-profile platforms like IFFI — implement a code of conduct to prevent such cultural and religious insensitivities in the future. As of now, the Bajirao Mastaniactor has not publicly responded to the allegations. Will there be any apology coming from Ranveer afterall?
