Christopher Nolan To Meet Netflix Over Warner Bros. Deal:

The Directors Guild of America (DGA), now headed by filmmaker Christopher Nolan, has announced plans to meet with Netflix after the streamer entered exclusive talks to buy Warner Bros. Discovery’s film and television assets. The DGA expressed strong reservations about the potential acquisition, warning that such a consolidation could threaten competition, creative freedom, and opportunities for directors and their teams.

In its official statement given to Deadline, the Guild said it believes “a vibrant, competitive industry — one that fosters creativity and encourages genuine competition for talent — is essential to safeguarding the careers and creative rights of directors and their teams.” The meeting is intended to let DGA leaders “outline our concerns and better understand [Netflix’s] vision for the future of the company.”

If completed, the deal would combine Netflix’s global streaming reach with Warner Bros.’ storied film studios, HBO/HBO Max, and a vast catalog of movies and series, a move that could reshape Hollywood’s power structure and control over content.

Critics, including unions and theater-owners, warn the merger may reduce options for filmmakers and performers, shrink theatrical releases, and limit creative diversity. In this environment, the DGA’s meeting aims to ensure that any major deal preserves competitive balance and doesn’t undermine the rights and livelihoods of creative professionals. As of now, the DGA has pledged not to comment further until after the discussion with Netflix.
