Pushpa Baahubali KGF Kantara
Biggest South Movies Openings in the Hindi Market:
The Hindi market has become a major factor in determining the success of South Indian blockbusters, with several films breaking records over the past few years. Leading the chart is Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 The Rule, which stormed the box office with a massive ₹65 crore nett opening, setting an all-time record for a South Indian film in Hindi as well as any film in Hindi market. Pushpa 2 smashed the record set by Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan (63.87 crore nett) and remains unbeaten so far.

Coming close is Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2, which collected ₹52.39 crore nett on its opening day, benefitting from a big holiday release. SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion stands third with ₹40.73 crore nett, still remembered for its phenomenal first-day footfalls and historic craze. Both these were record openers at the time.
Prabhas dominates the list with multiple entries. His action thriller Saaho opened to ₹25 crore nett, while the ambitious sci-fi spectacle Kalki 2898 AD earned ₹20 crore nett on day one. Another Prabhas starrer, Salaar, despite clashing with another big film, managed ₹15.73 crore nett.
Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar’s 2.0 also made a mark in Hindi with ₹19.74 crore nett, while Rajamouli’s RRR, featuring Ram Charan and Jr NTR, opened at ₹19.38 crore nett, proving strong despite tough competition.
The latest entrant to the list is Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1, which surprised many with a ₹16 crore nett opening in Hindi, despite facing a clash at the box office. This one ranks at the 8th spot in the list, file many expected the film to win top 5, but it seems rather a rough job.
These numbers clearly show how South films have built a massive fan base among Hindi audiences, often competing head-to-head with Bollywood’s biggest releases. However, the biggest opening of the year in Hindi remains an original Hindi film, Chhaava (29 crore).
