It is a known fact that in his upcoming biggie Gold, Akshay Kumar plays the part of a patriotic Indian who wants his country to win its first gold in hockey after being free from the British. However, there is a lot more to Akshay’s characterization in the film than primarily being a patriot who fires all cylinders to put together resources for his dream team. Reason being that there are a lot of quirks added to his personality that make him a lively personality on screen.
Says our source, “It is not just a one dimensional character that Akshay plays in the film. He could have approached this part as an all-serious person, something that was the case in his Airlift. That was a different film though and Gold is different. It isn’t a cut-n-dry drama that just focuses on the facts with little elements of fiction. As a matter of fact the film is much livelier and commercial which caters to the mass as well as class audience. To ensure that, director Reema Kagti took a call to make Akshay’s Bengali character really lively.”
This is the reason why Akshay plays the part of a man who is not just romantic when it comes to his wife (played by Mouni Roy) but also a lot fun loving when he interacts with his team of hockey players.
“Just like he is on the sets when he is with his co-stars where there is never a dull moment around, even in the film’s narrative he can be seen having loads of fun. He drinks, he challenges the officials, he plays around with his team members, he jokes and laughs with them, he is uninhibited when it comes to celebrations, he doesn’t mind when he gets a little clumsy and he also has a whole hearted laugh when there are good things happening around him. All in all, his character is the ‘jaan’ of the film which takes the narrative to the next level beyond a patriotic sports drama,” the source continues.
We would to love to see all of that and more happening on screen once Gold releases all over on 15th August.
