Akshay Kumar Gets Interim Protection From Bombay High Court:

The Bombay High Court is poised to grant interim protection to actor Akshay Kumar, following his petition against the misuse of deepfake videos and AI-generated impersonations.

In his petition, Akshay seeks legal safeguards for his “personality rights” — that is, protection for his name, image, voice, likeness, mannerisms and other identifiable traits. The petition names both known parties and “unknown persons” who may be creating, circulating or profiting from unauthorized AI-generated content. Recently, there had been a couple of cases when Kumar's face was used for deepfake videos, hurting his image. 

If granted, which is most likely now, the interim order would restrain the misuse of his persona while the full case is heard. Importantly, the court’s attention reflects growing concern about how AI-driven impersonation can harm a person’s reputation and public image.

The case is not isolated. Recently, the Bombay High Court granted interim relief to singer Asha Bhosle (for voice) and actor Suniel Shetty in similar petitions over AI misuse. In Shetty’s case, the court observed that unauthorized deepfake images uploaded to social media and e-commerce platforms could amount to a serious violation of dignity and privacy. 

As the legal system wrestles with emerging challenges in the AI era, courts are being asked to balance freedom of expression with the right to protect one’s identity. For now, interim protection offers a temporary shield to Akshay Kumar against misuse of his likeness until a final judgment is reached. A celebrity of Akshay's stature needs this kind of security for sure.
