Akshay Kumar, Anees Bazmee & Vidya Balan Team Up For A Comedy:

Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan are set to reunite with director Anees Bazmee for a fresh Hindi comedy project inspired by the Telugu flick Sankranthiki Vasthunam (2025). The film is scheduled to go on floors in January 2026, with principal photography reportedly beginning around January 19 in Mumbai. A post by Sr. Journalist Vicky Lalwani confirmed the same.

The original Sankranthiki Vasthunam, directed by Anil Ravipudi and starring Venkatesh, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Meenakshi Chaudhary, released during the Sankranti festival in January 2025. It emerged as one of the biggest hits of the year in Telugu cinema, earning praise for its blend of comedy, action, and family entertainment.

While early reports suggested the Hindi version would be a direct remake, producer Dil Raju clarified that the Bollywood adaptation will take inspiration from the core concept of the Telugu film rather than being a shot-by-shot remake. The project is expected to balance humour, emotion, and character-driven storytelling, hallmarks of Bazmee’s previous hits.

For Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan, this film marks a notable collaboration after several years, reuniting two of Bollywood’s most respected performers. Fans recall their earlier work together in Mission Mangal (2019), which was both commercially successful and critically acclaimed. 

Anees Bazmee, known for comedies like Welcome (2007) and Singh Is Kinng (2008), will bring his signature style to this adaptation, with expectations high for another entertaining entertainer in the Hindi film landscape.
