Filmmaker Kiran Rao has shared a health update after undergoing appendix surgery in Mumbai, reassuring fans that she is recovering well ahead of the new year. Rao posted photos and a short video from her stay at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, showing glimpses of her hospital room and moments after the procedure.
In her Instagram post, she described how the unexpected health issue interrupted her plans to “party” into 2026, calling it a reminder to slow down and be grateful. Rao thanked Dr. Kayomarz Kapadia, her surgical team, hospital staff, and close friends for their care and support during her hospital stay. She also made light of an allergic reaction that briefly left her lips swollen, joking that they have since returned to normal.

One detail that caught public attention was the name on her hospital wristband and ID tag, which read “Kiran Aamir Rao Khan”. The name includes that of her former husband, actor Aamir Khan, with whom she was married from 2005 until their separation in 2021. This sparked discussion online, as Rao had previously spoken about her choice not to adopt her husband’s name after marriage.
Rao confirmed that she has now been discharged and is back home, easing into recovery and looking forward to the new year. Several celebrities and friends responded to her update with well-wishes and messages of support. Kiran Rao is known for directing films such as Dhobi Ghat and Laapataa Ladies, and will soon be working on her project.
