A 26-year-old television and web-series actress has been arrested by the Thane Police for allegedly operating a sex racket from a hotel in the city’s Wagle Estate area, officials confirmed. The action was carried out by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) following a tip-off about illegal activities.

According to police sources, the accused — a resident of Malad who had appeared in Hindi web series — was allegedly working as an agent, arranging women for clients and coordinating deals through WhatsApp calls. During the raid, two women aged 40 and 48 were rescued from the hotel premises.

Investigators said the woman allegedly charged clients around ₹25,000 per session and kept a significant portion as commission. Police also seized two mobile phones and other items used to run the operation.

Preliminary questioning revealed that the accused claimed she turned to the illegal trade due to irregular acting opportunities and mounting financial pressure, including the need to support her family in Bihar.

Officials added that the victims have been sent to a rehabilitation centre, while further probe is underway to determine whether more people are linked to the racket. Authorities are also examining the accused’s contacts within the entertainment industry to identify potential accomplices.
