Often hailed as the Father of Indian Cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke's legacy is honored annually with India's most prestigious film award named after him. Yet, despite his monumental contribution, Hindi cinema has never fully brought his story to the silver screen—until now. Guess what? We are having that biopic now. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are set to collaborate on Dadasaheb Phalke's biopic, slated to begin production this year.

After the huge success of 3 Idiots and PK, Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani to collaborate for the third time –

Set during the Indian independence movement, the upcoming film will chronicle the incredible journey of Phalke, an artist who overcame immense challenges to lay the foundation of what would become one of the world’s largest film industries.

As per sources, the production is scheduled to begin in October 2025. Aamir Khan will commence his preparation for the role shortly after the release of Sitaare Zameen Par. To authentically recreate the era, VFX studios based in Los Angeles have already developed AI-generated designs to match the film’s historical setting.

Director Rajkumar Hirani, along with writers Abhijat Joshi, Hindukush Bharadwaj, and Avishkar Bharadwaj, has been developing the script for the past four years. The project has also received valuable support from Dadasaheb Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, who has shared rare personal anecdotes from Phalke’s life.
