7 Bollywood Celebs Who Were Teachers Before They Became Actors

On the occasion of Teachers' Day, we bring to you a list of seven actors, who were teachers before they made it big in the film industry:

1. Akshay Kumar: Akshay Kumar trained in martial arts in Bangkok, Thailand and upon his return to Mumbai he started teaching it. In fact, it was one of his students, who recommended Kumar into modelling and the rest as they say is history.2. Kader Khan: Before he marked his Bollywood debut with 1973 release Daag, Kader Khan used to be a professor of civil engineering at MH Saboo Siddik College of Engineering, Mumbai.3. Nandita Das: After receiving her bachelor’s degree in Geography from Delhi’s Miranda House, actor-filmmaker Nandita Das, went on teach at Rishi Valley School, Andhra Pradesh.4. Chandrachur Singh: Chandrachur Singh, who is best known for his roles in Kya Kehna, Maachis and Josh, used to teach music in Doon School, Dehradun, before his acting career took off.5. Tom Alter: Before the acting bug bit him, veteran actor Tom Alter used to work as a teacher. The late Padma Shri-recipient started teaching at St. Thomas School, Haryana at the age of 19. He also taught students at Woodstock School, Mussoorie.6. Utpal Dutt: Legendary actor, director and playwright, Utpal Dutt used to teach English at Kolkata’s South Point School, in the late 40s.7. Balraj Sahni: Balraj Sahni and his wife Damyanti Sahni used to teach English and Hindi at Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Visva-Bharati University, in the late 30s.
