November 4, 2025, marks 31 years since one of Bollywood’s most interesting box office clashes — SuhaagVs.Andaz Apna Apna. Both films released on November 4, 1994, featuring some of the biggest names of that era, yet their fates turned out very differently.

Suhaag, starring Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Karisma Kapoor, and Nagma, was an action-packed masala entertainer directed by Kuku Kohli. The film opened strongly and went on to become a hit. It collected ₹55 lakhs on its opening day, ₹1.53 crore over the weekend, and ended with a lifetime total of ₹7.09 crore in India, earning a Hit verdict at the box office. The film’s combination of high-octane action, emotional family drama, and catchy songs like Gore Gore Mukhde Pe, Kagaz Kalam, Ye Nakhra Ladki Ka appealed to the masses.

On the other hand, Andaz Apna Apna, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, brought together Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Karisma Kapoor in a comedy that was way ahead of its time. Despite its now-legendary status, the film had a modest box office performance back then, opening with ₹31 lakhs, earning ₹92 lakhs over the weekend, and finishing with ₹5.29 crore in total — a Flop by 1994 standards.

While Suhaag triumphed commercially during its release, Andaz Apna Apna has since grown into a timeless cult classic, loved for its quirky humour, unforgettable dialogues, and hilarious performances — proving that sometimes, true success comes long after the box office battle is over. It's not the first time that a classic movie has flopped at the box office. In 1994 only, Hollywood had a flop like The Shawshank Redemption, which is now termed as the greatest movie ever made as per IMDb users rating. Suhaag hardly has anything to compete with Andaz Apna Apna in terms of cult following, but the contemporary success of the film is undeniable.
