Viduthalai Part 2 Review Movie Talkies:

Vetrimaaran's Viduthalai Part 1 was truly good and promising, even if not as great as reviewers and audiences made it out to be, which is why there was not much hype surrounding the sequel. Viduthalai Part 2 struggles to match the level of Part 1 and ends up being a complete waste of time, talent, and the potential that Part 1 left behind.

Viduthalai Part 2

Viduthalai Part 2 Story

Perumal, the leader, is finally in custody and begins recounting his past to the cops. The storyline follows his early days as a teacher who was half-murdered and then joined a political-social movement for the marginalized. He falls in love with another revolutionary, Mahalakshmi, and they marry. Shortly after, Perumal loses his patience, becomes violent against the upper-class oppressors, and ultimately becomes a fugitive. Through these conversations, the cops realize that he wasn't the bad man the officers portrayed him to be, raising moral questions.

Viduthalai Part 2

Most of the screenplay is bogged down by Perumal's character development, which is tedious. The romance, sudden deaths, half-cut songs, and background tunes ruin the entire tempo of the narrative. From being a social and revolutionary film, it devolves into a politically immoral film, causing us to lose interest. The climax also disappoints significantly, especially after taking two and a half hours of our time.

Viduthalai Part 2

Vijay Sethupathi has performed decently, but this is nowhere near his usual high standards. The mix of a raw character and a mass hero does not work well. Soori appeared fairly average in Part 1, and here he has an even smaller role, as the narrative doesn't allow his character to make a significant impression. Manju Warrier, with shorter hair, looked better before transforming herself into a typical woman and housewife. Gautham Vasudev Menon, Rajiv Menon, and the rest of the supporting cast, including cameos, were merely watchable.

Viduthalai Part 2

Viduthalai Part 2 also falters in technical aspects. As I mentioned, the editing lacks finesse, with scenes and songs abruptly cut between each other. The cinematography was okay, and the sound design didn't contribute much, but the production design and locations were better. If this is what you intended, then I must say that Vetrimaaran had a flawed plan. He could have trimmed two films into one, creating a single film of over three hours, which might have had a greater impact than the experience after watching Part 2. Overall, it is a strictly average film that squanders its potential and our expectations.
